Sample USCIS Defensive I-589 Receipt Notice

This document is a receipt notice for a biometrics, or fingerprinting, request sent to USCIS for a defensive asylum application (Form I-589) filed with the immigration court. When you file an asylum application in immigration court, it is considered a defensive asylum application. If you filed an asylum application in immigration court and followed the steps to request a biometrics appointment from USCIS, you may get this defensive asylum receipt notice. USCIS sends this notice after receiving the necessary documents to request a biometrics appointment.

After this receipt notice, USCIS should send you a biometrics appointment notice with the date, time, and location of your appointment.

You can watch this video to learn more about how to request an appointment to have your fingerprints taken for your asylum application filed in immigration court. Read more about biometrics appointments here.

Please note that unlike USCIS, immigration courts do not issue receipt notices for asylum applications. Instead, when you apply, you can request a stamped copy of your asylum application as proof that you submitted your asylum application.
